Qatar is country of the Middle East located on a peninsula protruding into the Persian Gulf; it shares a land border with Saudi Arabia.

Qatar is predominately a flat and rocky, sandy plain punctuated by low hills. Coastal salts pans lie to the west and sand dunes dominate the southeast. The country's climate is one of long, very hot summers with temperatures reaching above 50°C and moderate winters during which a small amount of rainfall may occur. The country can be subject to sudden dust storms.

Qatar is ranked 3rd in the world for proven deposits of natural gas and 12th in the world for crude oil reserves.
